According to CREB, January was a slower start to the year, but not unusual for this time of year. Sales were down compared to last January, mainly in condos and townhomes, because buyers have more listings to choose from and don’t feel as rushed. More sellers listed their homes, which means there’s more inventory on the market — especially for apartments and row homes — while detached homes are still in tighter supply.

Prices overall are a bit lower than this time last year, mostly because condo and townhome prices softened, but things have been fairly steady compared to the end of 2025. In short: we’re in a more balanced market where strategy matters more than speed.

If we haven’t met yet, hi—I’m Janet. Over the years, my path has led me here – to The Monteith Houle Real Estate Team. I am delighted every day, and I may be biased, but I think it’s a great story how I ended up here.

I earned a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta and loved the information gathering and attention to detail that it required. However, I quickly realized my strengths straddled both the analytical and people-centered realms altering my trajectory somewhat.

I found the perfect mix of science, strategy, and human connection in pharmaceutical sales. For nearly 10 years, I thrived in a competitive industry—launching new products, earning top performance recognition, and building trusted relationships with pharmacists, physicians, and specialists.

That experience helped shape what I’m known for today:

▪️Strategic planning with clients’ best interests in mind
▪️Long-lasting professional relationships

When our first child arrived, life took a meaningful turn. I surprised myself by choosing to step back professionally and focus on raising our two boys—a time I’m incredibly grateful for and will always cherish.

Once both kids were in school, I felt ready to return to work in a way that truly fit who I am. Real estate felt like a natural next step—and from my very first client, I knew I’d found my professional “home.”
