Another swim season...done.

Swimming is one of those sports that most people only see for a few seconds.

Parents see years.

Years of practices.

Sore muscles.

Long weekends.

Wet towels in the back seat.

Goggles everywhere.

Teammates who become family.

This season also marked the end of Jamie coaching Declan.

I do not think Declan was entirely sure about Jamie when the season started.

Jamie is a tough coach.

He expects a lot from his swimmers and he does not lower the bar.

Looking back now, I think that challenge is exactly what helped Declan grow.

So thank you, Jamie.

Not just for the faster swim times, but for the confidence, resilience, and discipline you helped build along the way.

Next season, Declan moves from the Bronze Squad to the Silver Squad with the Calgary Patriots.

He is excited.

I am excited.

And yes...I am also looking forward to our bathroom not smelling like chlorine for at least a couple of weeks.

Last day of Grade 9.

This was Declan walking into middle school for the very last time.

Somewhere along the way, he also managed to become taller than me.

I am incredibly proud of the young man he is becoming and excited to see what this next chapter brings.

That said...before anyone gets too emotional, let's remember he still leaves his dishes on the counter instead of putting them in the dishwasher.

So, while he may be heading to high school in September, there is still plenty of work to do.
