So as a 45 year veteran, I would like to say that as much as I am not sure, that I picked this profession for myself, I look back and think how this profession, actually did fulfill me. I learned so much.. but more a little about a lot, than a lot about anything...especially since it always changes. I got to see and interact with people at interesting stages in their lives. I have a different relationship with my nieces and nephews, because I was their realtor. my brothers and sisters too, but.. they weren't sure I knew much... Behind every successful person... is a surprised sibling. Thank heavens I didn't have any children, to really screw up. I have been fortunate enough to feel that I haven't lost a friendship over a commission.
And some commissions, or interactions, even without commissions, take you places, and understandings that you never thought you would be. On Boards, Organizations, in their formative years, steering, or facilitating them through a difficult hurdle.
But this profession has also broken my heart, when I see how much young people can lose, by following our advice, and for how long. Their resilience, is what gives me hope for the future.
