Have you claimed Alberta's $100 Energy Rebate yet? The application period was extended. Apply by October 31, 2026.

Who can get it: Albertans 18 or older as of July 1, 2026 who live in Alberta, filed a 2025 tax return, and have a household income of $225,000 or less.

If you or your parents receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, ADAP or Income Support, you are enrolled automatically. No application is needed. (New clients enrolled in those programs after July 1 do need to apply.)

Everyone else applies online at alberta.ca with a verified Alberta.ca Account. Adults in the same home who are not married or common-law each apply on their own. If the computer side is a hurdle, Alberta Supports centres offer computer access and on-site help.

One heads-up from the province: do not click links in text messages to apply. Go to alberta.ca yourself.

This is a Government of Alberta rebate, not ours. We just want our neighbours to get it before the 31st. Worth a quick call to Mom and Dad this week.

An air quality reading on a dining table: 22 degrees, 57 percent humidity and CO2 at 1050 ppm. Fine dust read zero. CO2 above 1000 often means a room needs more fresh air. Health Canada treats indoor CO2 as a ventilation signal, not a health diagnosis. A reading like this gives you a starting point before you buy any equipment.

Thank you to the parents and grandparents who've welcomed our team into their homes. You've taught us a lot about what makes a house easy to live in.

Chapter 22 of Beyond Comfort is about homes that keep up with the people in them. One example from the book: a lever handle helps someone with a sore grip, and it helps a parent carrying groceries or laundry as much. The same goes for single-lever faucets, steady water temperature at the tap, and light that shows the edge of each step at night.

Carla has held her Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist designation since the mid-2000s. Her line from the chapter: "This is not about decline. It is about stewardship through time."

One City program still open for Calgary homes: the Home Water Savings Rebate.

Eligible homeowners or residential water-account holders can get up to $150 toward one WaterSense-labelled bathroom fixture (a toilet, bathroom faucet or showerhead), bought and installed on or after August 4, 2026. It covers the fixture cost only, not labour. You need an ENMAX Water Account. Apply after install through Green Calgary. The pilot ends December 1, 2026, or sooner if the funds run out. The City and Green Calgary decide who qualifies.
