Since 2 of my clients are in the middle of moving right now I'd like to share a few what I tell my buyers before possession day. 🏡📦
📦 Book your movers early.
If you’re hiring movers call as soon as you know your possession date. Good movers book up quickly.
📞 Confirm the day before.
Call or text to make sure everything is still on schedule and confirm the arrival window. I cant stress this enough because I had clients whose movers were a no-show on the day of!
⏰ DO NOT book your movers for noon.
This is a big one. Your possession time might be noon but that does not mean you’ll have the keys at exactly noon. There can be delays with lawyers, funds, registration, keys or the transaction itself.
I always recommend booking movers for later in the afternoon or, if possible, the following day. Yes, it means a little more inconvenience — but it can save you from paying movers to sit around waiting.
🔑 Don’t schedule everything for the exact minute you get possession.
Possession day has enough moving parts without adding unnecessary pressure.
🧹 Have a “first night” box.
Toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, phone chargers, coffee, snacks, basic toiletries, medications, scissors/box cutter and a change of clothes. You’ll thank yourself later.
📸 Take photos before everything gets moved in.
Especially if there are existing concerns or items you want documented.
🥡 Plan dinner or delivery in advance.
Trust me, you will not want to cook.
And finally… give yourself some grace. Your new home does not need to be perfectly unpacked on day one. You just got the keys to your new home. 🥂🏡
