Today, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors, and the families and communities who continue to live with the ongoing impacts of residential schools.

At Caltech, we recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment and not a single day of reflection. As we work alongside Indigenous communities across Western Canada, we strive to build respectful relationships based on listening, trust, collaboration, and meaningful participation.

On September 30, we encourage everyone to take time to learn, reflect, and consider how we can each contribute to reconciliation in our workplaces, communities, and everyday actions.

From Olympic gold to a career in land surveying, Ben Hebert has a story you won't want to miss.

We're excited to co-sponsor a special Q&A with Ben and Natasha Staniszewski at the CALEP 2026 Northern Horizons conference next week in Edmonton. Ben will share the highs, challenges, and lessons from his Olympic journey in Italy, his experiences navigating elite sport and how curling helped shape his career in Calgary's land industry.

And yes, Ben will be bringing his Olympic gold medal, giving everyone the rare opportunity to see it up close and snap a photo with a piece of Canadian sports history!

With an opening introduction from Travis Monk of Tundra and a closing roast by Rory Brown, this session is sure to deliver plenty of insights, laughter, and unforgettable stories.

See you there!

This roadway and utility corridor along the John Hart Highway was captured using UAV LiDAR in less than 30 minutes, producing a high-density dataset containing more than 76 million points across a 400 m corridor.

The original project scope required only classified point cloud deliverables. Following the initial survey, additional features were requested that were outside the original project scope. Rather than mobilizing a survey crew for another site visit, the project team was able to leverage the LiDAR dataset already collected and extracted additional features directly from the office. The client received the files within a day, saving both time and project costs without setting foot back on site.

This project demonstrates a key advantage of LiDAR technology: one site visit can support multiple deliverables, even as project requirements change. By eliminating the need for a return trip, the client benefited from faster turnaround, reduced costs, and greater project efficiency.

One site visit. Multiple deliverables. No remobilization required.

We're proud to announce that Caltech achieved a 99% score in our 2026 COR Maintenance Audit, with no audit element scoring below 94%.

The audit reviewed our operations across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, including employee interviews, office and field observations, and an in-depth review of our HSE Management System.

This result reflects the dedication of every Caltech employee. Whether in the field, the office, or supporting operations behind the scenes, our commitment to safety, accountability, and continuous improvement is what makes achievements like this possible.

Safety isn't just a program at Caltech, it's part of who we are.

Congratulations to the entire team on this exceptional accomplishment.

Every surveyor has a story. Some stories involve hornet nests, hidden monuments, unexpected wildlife encounters, and discoveries that make all the hard work worthwhile.

In her article for the Saskatchewan Land Surveyors Association, Caltech’s own Kim Borgford shares how a career that began as a summer field assistant 20 years ago grew into a lifelong passion for surveying. Through her experiences, she reminds us to stay curious, embrace challenges, work as a team, and never stop learning.
