âWhat do I do with all of this?â
Itâs one of the questions I hear most often from clients considering a move into a smaller, more manageable home.
And honestly? Itâs rarely just about the physical items.
Itâs the wedding china. The furniture that belonged to your parents. The things your children made when they were little. The objects that have quietly witnessed decades of your life.
Thatâs why rightsizing can feel so emotional.
But rightsizing isnât about erasing your past. Itâs about curating your future.
Instead of asking, âWhat can I get rid of?â try asking:
â What kind of life am I making room for?
â Which memories need the object and which just need the story?
â What would I do with the time Iâm no longer spending maintaining this home?
â What would I choose if I knew I didnât have to preserve everything?
Sometimes the goal isnât a perfectly decluttered house.
Itâs more weekends away instead of mowing a massive lawn. More travel instead of more maintenance. More time with family instead of more rooms to clean.
And that can make letting go feel a little different.
If youâre considering a move into a home that better fits the life you want now, you donât have to figure it all out at once. đ¤
