Downtown Calgary is home to a fast-growing, young population, but the neighbourhood has long lacked affordable, accessible places to play and gather. For families in two-bedroom apartments and young professionals alike, there simply hasn't been enough space to get outside and be active.

That's about to change. Construction is officially underway on Kickstart Commons, a Parks Foundation led project transforming Lot 83, an underused parking lot in Downtown West, into a vibrant new sport and recreation hub for the community.

Soon, this stretch of pavement will become home to a flexible mini soccer pitch, vibrant painted surfaces, generous seating, improved lighting, and added greenery through new trees and planters. Designed around soccer, the world's most accessible and universally loved sport, the space is built to welcome youth of every skill level and background.

Kickstart Commons will give downtown youth a place of their own to play, connect, and belong.
