Many of us carry wounds from childhood — moments when we felt unseen, unheard, or unprotected.
Those moments that made us feel small… they didn’t always come from a single source. When we look back at our own childhood wounds, it is easy to focus on parenting — because yes, it is a possibility — but it isn’t the only one. The truth is: that the pain can come from anywhere.
A difficult school environment, fragile friendships, or the constant weight of outside expectations can easily leave a child feeling completely isolated in their own skin, regardless of how much love is in the house.
We cannot stop a harsh world from touching our children, but we do hold the absolute responsibility to help them process it.
Without a deep, lived-in connection at home, a child is forced to carry the weight of those experiences entirely on their own, slowly building up a rigid emotional shield just to cope with the noise.
Real protection isn't about hiding them from reality. It is about offering an environment so rich in internal stillness and predictability that they never have to bury their confusion, or face the storm alone.
Stepping into that role is a conscious, daily choice to offer our kids a different baseline than the one we might have carried ourselves.
When we do the heavy work of dropping our shoulders, keeping our composure, and letting their heaviest days land safely without withdrawing our warmth, we are doing something much bigger than just managing a stressful day’s events.
We are becoming the exact person we once needed ourselves — ensuring that the old patterns stop right at our front door. ❤️
