Well here it is, the reason you donāt see my open house signs any longer. Other steps like asking for ID verification prior to showing, or a wonderful husband who is aware of my every move and a chaperone if my spidey senses alert me.
I have been cornered in a property before and made to feel uncomfortable - thankfully I am not a small woman.
I have had potential buyers or tenants refuse to give ID, recently a man became incredibly aggressive with me on the phone then opted to put in a complaint with my broker to force me to show the property without ID. As you can imagine the answer was still no.
I have even felt stalked at a recurring open house.
This environment we are in expects a high social media presence with my image front and center. Yes, it can help expand our business but at what cost to us? Female agents receiving egregious DMās and creeps knowing our location⦠What is a girl to do?
My heart goes out to this woman - it is my understanding she was showing a tenant so she may not be a Realtor, she may not have had steps in place to help protect her or she became complacent - This is the reminder we all needed to put our safety first above client demand, and hopefully gather some understanding from the public why our processes seem to have changed. I have to say her fight is our fight, and I hope she comes out of this with renewed strength and resilience in her life and assurance her story has given strength to so many women to stand their ground and fight ā¤ļø JUSTICE SERVED.
