It certainly was a dynamic 48 hours, but was it perfect timing?

No, it was planned perfection. And if you work hard enough, for long enough, and of course with the right people, things will tend to line up perfectly.

The decommissioning of our tower crane at Francesco was sequenced by our team with extreme diligence to line up with the exact start date and time of our crane er****on at Sentinel. The crane was moved 9 blocks west up 17th Avenue and erected at our Sentinel project at the intersection of 17th Avenue and 14th Street SW within a 48-hour time limit.

I’m extremely appreciative of our team’s effort and performance. From Francesco to Sentinel, no letting up and no slowing down.

While we have achieved 85% lease-up at our 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 building right on schedule, with just one remaining retail unit available of the six leased to date, our foundation work just a few blocks over at 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨 is well underway.​

All the real work happens at this stage — the foundation.​

It largely goes unseen, except for the few who dare to peer over and into the hole to understand just how many humans, machinery, and energy it takes to reach the surface and then rise vertically into the sky.​

It’s effort-filled, intense, and requires both intention and consistent intensity to ensure it’s set to carry the weight of the project and the longevity of the endeavor.​

Yes, just like life itself 🙂​

Another significant milestone achieved for 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨.​

Our tower crane came down almost two weeks prior to schedule, so fast in fact, we almost entirely missed getting any video of this important milestone. Just 12 months prior this crane was erected to construct the tower structure, now we are on the home stretch to the completion of our exceptional interiors and finishings with a targeted December occupancy.

The entire Team is focused on 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨 coming together in anticipation of the ultimate Christmas REVEAL.​

A big thank you to our crews and partners whose hard work has brought us to this important milestone.​

Retail line up, public art installation, and the largest outdoor patio on 17th avenue, right around the corner!

Celebrating three years of Milpa at our building, The Fifth. ​

Since opening its doors, Milpa has made a remarkable
impact on Calgary’s culinary scene—earning a place
on Air Canada enRoute’s list of Canada’s Best New
Restaurants and being named Best New Restaurant
2024 by Avenue Magazine. ​

On February 10th, the Arlington team were treated to
a special preview of their evolving menu, which
expands beyond traditional Mexican roots into a
broader exploration of Latin flavours and techniques.​

We’re grateful to Rajiv and the entire Milpa team for
the warm hospitality and an unforgettable evening. ​

Here’s to many more years of incredible food at The
Fifth.

A milestone reached. A vision realized. Together.​

Last Tuesday, on a glorious sunny winter day, we officially topped off 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨, marking a defining moment in the delivery of this
Important project.​

This milestone reflects the focused ex*****on, exceptional craftsmanship, and the collective effort of our team. It was important for me
to stand alongside the architects, key consultants, strategic partners, Core ASI Team, and of course, all our trades to personally thank
the men and women whose skill and commitment made this achievement possible.​

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨, our 17th Ave Masterplan crown jewel, stands as a testament to the standards we set, our people who live them, and the
pride taken in building something that will leave a lasting legacy in our beloved City!​

We are proud to announce that our 𝐀𝐒𝐈 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 is complete.​

This project’s completion came after 18 months of construction and 4 years of development, hard work, and dedication by the team while navigating a very dynamic market environment and political landscape. It was a very appreciative experience for me to move through our team tour a few weeks ago in Kelowna. 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥  came together better than I anticipated, and all the credit goes to our project team, from capital and financing to construction and design.​

𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲.

The gentlemen behind these sunglasses (yes, we forgot to take off our sunglasses) which, I’m told, is apparently never good when you’re trying to capture an important moment. These gentlemen have been on the team from day 1 progressing 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥 project through all of its various iterations from the purchase, heading to City Hall, to the financing, and ultimately the start of construction.

This project sits shoulder to shoulder with our 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨 building, as the largest projects ever to be built on the 17th Avenue corridor, and you can’t complete that result without people who possess audacity, hard work, big shoulders, and a very strong locus of control. There are many others that deserve accolades and credit and when this project is successfully completed in ~ 24 months, I will detail them individually and tell you one thing that distinguishes them from most.

Today I thank our team and what we have accomplished together to date!

I view these images below from 𝟗 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨 and I am reminded 3 key items​

1. How great the property manager was who dealt with this building for almost 30 years. ​
2. How ignorant of a comment our previous Mayor made towards this audacious venture, but most importantly... ​
3. How dynamic this project has been over the continuum of time​.

One of the things that most people don’t connect with in development, is regardless of how talented you might be and/or think you are, every single project can be likened to a start-up company. As all entrepreneurs know, every great business is initiated by a thoughtful and confident business plan which identifies the key elements of the product and or offering, and its positioning, along with the challenges that must be overcome and your strategy to do so, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬. ​

And then, like most start-ups, you go into the universe and almost immediately need to pivot, reassess, reevaluate and deal with the new inputs. You know, such as the things you can’t control, and in our case the worst down cycle in Calgary’s energy complex, 9 interest rate hikes, a no-fly zone for investment into the Calgary marketplace, and insurmountable price escalations to name a few. On the very worst days “some” even ask, is it worth all the risk, human capital, and sacrifice? ​

Yes, every entrepreneur goes through this exact cycle over and over again throughout their arc as an entrepreneur. So there really is no “ultimate success” as a businessperson. The way I think of it is, it’s the continuum of relentless challenges that one must identify, face, and ultimately overcome to create who You as an individual will ultimately be.

𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥, located on one of the most vital intersections in Calgary’s urban beltline is a story unto itself. This project is the largest assembled site in the history of the 17th Ave corridor. Sentinel will transform this intersection, this Main Street, which has languished for years in the Sunalta/Bankview communities. We will introduce over 250,000 SF of development, $100M in construction, create hundreds more jobs and continue to activate our ASI 17th Avenue Master Plan Project 6/8
