Bedrock Realty Advisors, organized a trip to the oilsands for Calgary business leaders. We chartered a private plane to MEG Energy operations to see how majority of the oilsands producers really operate. The best defence against all the false information out there is first hand awareness. And it was an eye opening experience.
First of all, majority of the oilsands is drilled from 300-400 meters under ground. The footprint of these wells are so minimal (3rd picture) that it is surrounded by trees and (we literally saw caribou, deers, bear tracks and eagles near the site. The wildlife seem completely undisturbed.
Secondly, majority of the facility production is recycling the water. The water is 90-95% recycled. And they don’t use surface water. They use aquifers 300-400 meters deep that is unused by nature otherwise. So nothing ecological is disturbed.
Lastly and most importantly, we stood over reclaimed areas that have been brought back to its original state within 5 years. (1st picture and picture of me and John)
The Canadian oilsands producers are also investing $16.5B in state of the art carbon capture technology.
We should be proud of Canadian Oil and Gas! We are responsible, ethical and environmentally conscious producers of energy.
