In Loving Memory of Jan Raczkowski…

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Jan Raczkowski, whose spirit peacefully left this world on Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 8:45 a.m. at the Foothills Hospice in Calgary, AB.

Jan was born on August 14, 1955, in Kożuchó, Poland. He spent much of his childhood in Zielona Góra, Poland, alongside his two younger brothers, Piotr Raczkowski and Marek Raczkowski, and was lovingly raised by his parents, Dymitr Raczkowski and Jaroslawa Raczkowska.

At the age of 16, Jan’s mother bravely immigrated to Canada to join her sister in pursuit of a better future for their family. Through perseverance and sacrifice, she gradually sponsored each family member, creating the opportunity for them to build a new life in Canada—a gift for which Jan and his family remained forever grateful.

At the age of 32, Jan embarked on a life-changing journey. Together with his beloved wife, Irena Raczkowska, and their two daughters, Marta Raczkowska and Hanna Raczkowska, he moved to Toronto, ON, embracing new opportunities and adventures while building a loving family home.

Jan was a peaceful, loving, intelligent, and deeply compassionate man. He possessed a remarkable curiosity about the world and a genuine interest in people. Those fortunate enough to know him were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit.

Family and friendship were at the center of Jan’s life and brought him his greatest joy. His interests were many and varied, reflecting his endless curiosity and appreciation for life. He loved exploring human psychology, nature, music, poetry, politics, and literature. He found happiness in hiking, swimming, dancing, travelling, creating, and discovering new experiences…

Just a quick check-in. My Full Time Job right now is still taking care of my Dad…💕and all I can say is I’m so grateful to have been given this opportunity and time to care for him during these days🙏

This August 2025, we received the unexpected and surprising diagnosis. Just a couple of weeks after I had taken my parents and kids on a summer road trip filled with a mix of glamping and hotel stays enjoying Canadas beautiful British Columbia. Thank goodness we took the time to share in those moments!🙏

In August, my sister and niece and nephew also came to visit before we all found out. It is incredible how fast life can change.

Shortly after I started to notice a slight change in his speech. It was so slight and so faint that only someone close to him could ever stand a chance to pick it up.

Initially the doctors thought he was all fine. My dad has always been a healthy man. He was a lover of nature, swimming, hiking, biking, studying, reading, walking, religions, cultures…and work.

They checked for signs of stroke, he passed them all. He felt fine and laughed it off. Just went because I made him. We thought maybe he had a mini stroke or was about to, after all he just turned 70, so thankfully more tests got done. And that’s how we discovered…that he had a growing tumor and that likely it was cancerous and growing for some time.

I sat with him in the room when the doctors informed him he has 3-6 months to live….It is now February. And he is still around and keeping strong. Much weaker, much more fragile, and not fully the same dad that we had, but close enough. His essence still within him and we have made peace with his decision to not proceed with any surgery, though we all so hoped he would.

But every soul has their journey. And we gotta respect this. Even if it’s not what we personally want for them.

Medications have been adventures.
Radiation and Chemo have been a novelty.
And I’m hoping to still get us out to Mexico for spring break to allow him to rest after his next chemo session if he’s strong.
His body has been taking them well. And we continue on this journey.

I plan to share one more post soon. As I await other news.

Last trip with my dad as we begin his radiation and chemo treatments…just a quick note that I am still alive but currently on leave until further notice as my family navigates through my dads terminal diagnosis…
Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season 🎄and I hope to reconnect early spring. Squeeze all your family members a bit tighter this season for me. 💕
