🌱Give your plastics a second life as a mini greenhouse!

Here's how to upcycle your old plastic bottles into DIY greenhouses.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Take an old half-dozen egg carton and fill it with soil (or, cut a full dozen egg carton in half)
- Place your seeds in the egg carton and cover lightly with the soil
- To create the walls of the terrarium, take an old water bottle (the larger the better, as it should be the same width as the egg carton) and cut it about 1 to 2 inches from the bottom
- You should be left with something that looks like a plastic saucer
- Place the egg carton with the seeds into the saucer-like dish
- Place the remaining part of the water bottle back on top so it once again resembles a complete water bottle
- Wait for your seeds to sprout and enjoy!

Don't snooze this!

Although February 17th, 2022 was officially the 'Random Acts of Kindness Day', this is a reminder that any day is a good day to practice.

It's been a tough two years for many of us, so here are just a few ways to spread joy to people around you:

- Give an unexpected compliment.
- Tip your coffee barista!
- Hold the door for someone (especially an elevator one).
- Let someone cut in front of you in line.
- Slow down so someone can merge in front of you in traffic.
- Let someone else take that primo parking spot.
- Give someone your seat on a crowded bus or subway.
- Join a freecycle group and give what you don't need.

📞🦍 Donate a device, save a gorilla!!

Now through April 30th, the Toronto Zoo’s Phone Apes program goal is to collect 2,500 electronic devices to help save gorillas 📞🦍

Elements used to create cell phones, such as coltan, are mined in the forests in the Congo, the home to endangered lowland gorillas. By recycling your old devices, it will reduce demand to mine these elements where incredible species call home.

To date, the Zoo has collected 53,000 cellphones and $41,500 has been raised through the PhoneApes program.

Join the Toronto Zoo in raising even more to help save gorillas in the wild by mailing your old cell phones to 361A Old Finch Ave, Toronto ON M1B 5K7, or hold on to them and drop off at the Zoo’s front entrance.

Cover your lemons and limes in water before storing them in the fridge to make them last up to 3 months! 🍋

Lemons love to stay moist and start to mold once they dry out. Their small pores allow for water to escape easily. Storing them submerged in water will keep them plump and lasting longer!
