It’s your home, and you should love where you live! But if you plan on selling in the next few years, you want to be careful about customizing too much.

Here are 3 renovations that might look great to you, but could actually shrink your buyer pool later:

❌ Eliminating the only bathtub: Turning your master bath into a massive luxury walk-in shower is amazing—unless it’s the only tub in the house. Buyers with young kids or pets will instantly cross your home off their list.

❌ Over-the-top landscaping: A yard filled with high-maintenance, exotic plants or massive water features can look beautiful, but most buyers just see a massive weekend chore checklist. Keep it clean and low-maintenance.

❌ Converting a bedroom into a hyper-specific space: Think built-in recording studios, massive walk-in closets, or home theaters that require ripping out closets. Buyers want flexibility.

The Golden Rule: Keep your permanent fixtures neutral and functional. Use furniture, paint, and decor to express your unique style!
