**McKechnie Masonry Restoration – Company Introduction**
McKechnie Masonry Restoration was founded by Kyle McKechnie, a skilled and dedicated mason with a deep-rooted passion for the trade and a specialized focus on heritage restoration.
Kyle’s journey into masonry began at the age of 16, working alongside his father, a mason with over 30 years of experience. What started as helping on small jobs quickly developed into a lifelong career. By the age of 20, Kyle was working full-time in the trade, gaining hands-on experience in brick, block, and stone work over six years.
Driven to expand his expertise, Kyle pursued formal education at Algonquin College’s Perth Campus, where he completed a two-year diploma in Heritage and Traditional Masonry—Canada’s only program of its kind. This highly regarded training provided him with the specialized skills required to work on historic and restoration projects.
Kyle went on to work with Local 12 Bricklayers Union in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, followed by several years on large-scale restoration projects across Ontario and beyond. His portfolio includes significant heritage landmarks such as St. Peter-in-Chains Cathedral in Peterborough, where he contributed to chimney reconstruction, large-scale stone replacement, and hand-carved stone replication. He further refined his craft in Kingston at Fort Frontenac—one of Canada’s oldest forts—working alongside the Department of National Defence and federal partners to restore and replicate historic stonework.
His experience also includes projects with Parks Canada at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Cape Breton, as well as restoration work on notable sites such as J.R. Park Homestead in Leamington, the Royal Canadian Legion in Haileybury, and buildings within the Kingston Penitentiary system.
Kyle’s passion lies in preserving the integrity and beauty of historic structures, and he has contributed to numerous church and heritage projects throughout the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
Today, McKechnie Masonry Restoration brings that wealth of experience back to the local community. Based in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, Kyle is proud to serve clients with craftsmanship, reliability, and attention to detail.
