New Affordable Homes Open in Summerside with Federal and Provincial Support.
Community leaders, housing partners, and elected officials gathered today to mark the opening of Earle and Marilyn Banks Place, a newly completed affordable rental housing development at 415 Granville Street in Summerside.
The 89-unit building includes 47 units designated as affordable rental housing, helping address the growing need for safe, stable housing in Prince County. The project is owned and operated on an equal partnership by the non-profit Kings Square Affordable Housing Corp. and Pan American Properties Inc. a division of the APM group. Construction of the project was led by APM MacLean.
The development was made possible through a strong partnership between the Government of Canada, through the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), and the Province of Prince Edward Island through the PEI Housing Corporation.
The building is named in honour of Earle and Marilyn Banks, longtime Summerside residents remembered for their quiet generosity and commitment to helping families facing difficult circumstances.
“Earle and Marilyn loved this community and were always ready to help people find their way forward,” said Tim Banks, CEO of the APM Group. “They would be proud to see their names on a building that will provide affordable rental housing and opportunity for Prince County families.” Banks added, “We appreciate the Province and the Government of Canada supporting us here.”
“We live here and we’re proud of what we build here”
