🇨🇦➡️🇺🇸 WALKING THE NEW GORDIE HOWE BRIDGE: SAVE THIS

Thinking about crossing the new Gordie Howe International Bridge on foot or by bike? Here’s what you need to know:

📍 WHERE TO PARK
• We parked at 4389 Sandwich St., Windsor
• It’s right near the base of the bridge
• The pathway toward the pedestrian/cycling entrance is directly across Sandwich St. from the parking lot

🌉 THE CROSSING
• The bridge’s dedicated multi-use path is 2.5 km / 1.5 miles
• It’s completely FREE for pedestrians + cyclists
• Expect an incline going up… you are, in fact, climbing a very large bridge 😂
• Give yourself roughly 30–45 minutes to walk across at a comfortable pace
• On a bike, roughly 10–15 minutes of actual riding
• Add extra time for customs/border processing + stopping for approximately 47 photos
• Bring your passport/NEXUS or other accepted border documents … duh 🇺🇸

🌮 KEEP GOING TO MEXICANTOWN
Don’t just cross, take a picture and turn around.

Once you clear U.S. Customs, continue toward Bagley St./Mexicantown.

🚲 BIKING: Mexicantown is the much more realistic add-on which is roughly a 15–25 min ride from the U.S. side depending on your destination/route.

🚶‍♀️ WALKING: Totally doable if you’re prepared to make a day of it, but expect roughly 45–60+ min from the U.S. bridge area into the heart of Mexicantown. Remember: you still have to walk all the way BACK. 😅 … so maybe take an uber 😅

🌮 WHERE TO EAT
Try Taqueria Lupita’s at 3443 Bagley St. for a casual, classic Mexicantown taco stop.

✨ A FEW TIPS:
• Bring water
• Wear actual walking shoes … this isn’t the day for the cute sandals
• Check the weather/wind before you go
• Leave lots of time for customs
• Bring proper border ID
• If you’re walking to Mexicantown, remember your total distance includes getting BACK across the bridge
• If your goal is exploring Detroit after crossing, BIKE > WALK in my opinion

Basically: park in Windsor → walk/bike to America → tacos in Mexicantown → casually cross an international border again to get home.

Pretty damn cool thing to have in our backyard. 🇨�
