Two Males Arrested for Fraud After Roofing Scam in Ajax

Two males are facing charges after a victim was defrauded for $18,000 as part of a roofing scam.

On Wednesday, October, 8, 2025, members of West Division responded to a fraud call in the area of Clements Road West and Monarch Avenue in Ajax.

The victim contacted a roofing company she located online called ‘Toronto’s Choice Home Improvement.’ An appointment was scheduled for them to attend the victim’s address and repair the roof.

The suspects attended the victim’s residence and advised that work needed to be completed on the roof at the cost of $18,000, which the victim paid. The suspects then advised the roof required further repairs in the amount of $50,000 and demanded the remaining balance claiming the work had been completed.

The victim contacted a claims adjuster who performed an inspection and concluded the cost did not reflect the repairs that were made to the roof. Officers arrived and placed both males in custody without incident.

Following an investigation, it was learned that ‘Toronto’s Choice Home Improvement’ is not a legitimate company.

Investigators are concerned there may be other victims and are releasing photos of the suspects. The business operated a website: https://www.torontoschoicehomeimprovements.com/

A 24- year-old male from Ireland is charged with: Fraud Over $5000.

A 28-year-old male from Great Britian is charged with: Fraud Over $5000

Both were held for a bail hearing.

Anyone who has been victimized by the accused’s or company is asked to contact Det.Tisi of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5279.

We are saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. He’s been taking my orders since I started my business over 20 years ago, and if we ever did your roof, chances are Steve was the one who handled it. I spent more hours than necessary at his desk, chatting and laughing at his wit and sarcasm. He was funny, genuine, and always top-notch at looking after his customers.

I’m grateful I had the chance to see him out on the golf course just a couple of weeks ago — that’s how I’ll remember him, in his happy place. Our condolences go out to Steve’s family, friends, and colleagues.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our long time Sales Representative, Steve Gilroy.

Steve began his 40+ year career with us in the yard, but worked his way through the ranks to become the most trusted and respected member of our sales team.

Steve was humble, loyal, and fiercely witty. He was dedicated not just professionally, but as a father and grandfather as well. When not working, he was often found at the rink, ball diamond or links with his grandsons - time he treasured and talked of fondly. His other life long love was golf - if you didn't see Steve at the store during business hours, you can bet he was at the course!

Steve (I'll keep the rest of this short and sweet for you) - you will be missed beyond measure.
