This summer, I’ve been trying to get better at the quieter moments.
Not every night needs a reservation. Not every weekend needs a plan. And not every beautiful part of summer needs to become something bigger than it is.
Sometimes it’s just walking down to the beach with the dogs at the end of the day. Bare feet. A Georgian Bay sunset. Staying a little longer than you meant to because there’s really nowhere else you need to be.
I talk a lot about the lifestyle here because it’s such a big part of the reason people choose to live in Southern Georgian Bay. The skiing, golf, trails, restaurants, cycling, the water — there is always something to do.
But this summer, I think I’ve appreciated the nothing-to-do moments even more.
We keep pretty hectic work and social schedules, and there’s a lot of “divide and conquer” in our world just to fit it all in. So when we find ourselves with nowhere we have to be, no plans to rush off to and a few hours that are completely our own, I’ve started to appreciate those pockets of time a whole lot more.
A swim at the end of the day. Dinner outside. A bike ride with no destination. Friends dropping by. Walking the dogs to the water to watch the sun go down.
The simple stuff.
Maybe it’s getting older. Maybe it’s getting wiser. Or maybe it’s finally realizing that these are the moments we’re working so hard to make room for in the first place.
Summer moves quickly!
I’m trying not to rush through this one.
