The Comox Valley Affordable Housing Society has some big news to share!
Our Cypress Gardens apartment building in Comox is officially the first affordable housing complex to attain Rick Hansen Gold certification for accessibility in British Columbia!
Thank you, Ann (our amazing Executive Director), and the incredible CVAHS team for your dedicated hard work. Your efforts have paid off!

With the amazing progress on the Cypress Gardens building, we figured it was about time for an update! We are all so excited that in a few short months, we will be welcoming 52 seniors into their new homes 🤩. More information about the building, and the application process is available in the linked blog post.

Cypress Gardens - a CVAHS affordable housing development providing 52 new homes for low-to-moderate income seniors (aged 60+) and people with disabilities (aged 55+), is finally nearing completion!

Have you seen the new CHB top up for renters in Canada? The one-time top-up aims to help low-income renters with the cost of renting. You may be eligible for a tax-free one-time payment of $500 - applications are open for this benefit until March 31, 2023!

Another 30 beds available this winter! The extreme weather shelter is located at St. John the Divine Church (579 5th Street Courtenay) and will be open until mid April!

The BC Housing Rental Assistance Programs are a great resource for families and seniors who are struggling to afford their rent as well as general costs of living. If you do not currently live in subsidized housing this may be something worth checking out!

Need help with the cost of rent? BC Housing Rental Assistance Programs support low-income working families and eligible seniors with assistance to help with their monthly rent payments.

A huge thank you to Ronna-Rae for coming out and meeting with us to discuss affordable housing in the Comox Valley!

Last week, I met the Comox Valley Affordable Housing Society - CVAHS at their community hall to hear about the exciting work they have taken on. This Lions Club team has really succeeded at working with government, other funders, and local contractors to fill a great need in Courtenay-Comox – affordable housing.

Currently, they have been approved for provincial funding for 52 new affordable units in Comox at the site of the D’esterre cottages, and they have received a $5 million grant for much needed upgrades to Quadra Gardens. It is an exciting time to get involved with the CV Affordable Housing Society or the Lions.
