The rain is back, the woodsmoke is drifting, and the Comox Valley is settling into one of its best seasons.

Pumpkins on every step and a skeleton in the front window? You might want to hold off on that if your house is going on the market this fall 🎃

We love a well-decorated Valley home as much as anyone. But when you're selling, the goal is to help buyers picture themselves living there through the rainy months ahead, not to show off the Halloween bin.

A few things we'd suggest this season:

🍂 Think harvest, not holiday. Potted mums, a wreath with pinecones and dried orange, a bowl of apples on the counter. It feels warm and seasonal without narrowing who it appeals to.

☔ Plan for the rain. This is the Comox Valley in October, after all. A sturdy mat, a boot tray and a few coat hooks by the door show buyers the entry actually works on a wet Tuesday.

🍁 Rake the walkways and clear the gutters. Those big leaf maples don't wait for your showing schedule.

🍎 Keep counters mostly clear. Buyers are sizing up workspace, so one styled spot is plenty.

💡 Turn on every light. It's getting dark earlier every week, and a dim house feels smaller than it is. Warm white bulbs make a real difference.

🍊 Go easy on scent. A pot of cinnamon and orange peel simmering on the stove beats a strong plug-in every time.

One more that people don't think about: listing photos 📸 If your home's still on the market in December, photos full of pumpkins start to look stale. Keep the photos to warm neutrals, wood and greenery, then bring out the seasonal touches in person for showings.
