Born and educated in the Netherlands, Richard Homburg is the founder of the Homburg Int. Group of Companies and Homburg Rentals. Since 1969, he built a highly successful portfolio of multifaceted operations worldwide, located not only in Canada and The Netherlands but also throughout Europe, the United States, China, and Australia. In 1972 he arrived in Nova Scotia establishing a successful import
-export business. Later he reinvested the profits in residential real estate. With an initial investment in several apartment buildings in North End Dartmouth, Halifax, Spryfield, across the Atlantic Provinces, Alberta & throughout North America. Group of Companies rose to become the leader in quality, affordable, safe, well-managed apartment buildings. A strong supporter of his community, Richard Homburg served on many corporate and local boards; notably, he is a past director of Evangeline Trust, the Urban Development Institute of Canada, and the World Trade Center in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He was also co-founder, past president, and director of the Investment Property Owners Association of Nova Scotia (IPOANS) and served as a director of the Fathers of Confederation Building Trust as well as the Confederation Center of the Performing Arts. Significant gifts have been received by Saint Mary’s University, QEII Health Science Centre Foundation; Dalhousie University's Medical School; the IWK Children's Hospital and Christ Church in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia among many others. He holds an honorary Doctorate in Commerce from Saint Mary’s University and an honorary Doctorate in Law from the University of Prince Edward Island.
