The federal and B.C. governments have announced a $1.45 billion program to purchase about 2,200 unsold new condos across B.C. and convert them into rent-to-own homes for middle-income families.

The initiative is expected to support condo prices by reducing excess inventory, particularly in markets like Burnaby and Surrey, while giving more families a path to homeownership. Details on eligibility are expected later this year.
