📣 Bank of Canada Interest Rate Update — January 28, 2026

Today the Bank of Canada announced its latest interest rate decision. Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Interest Rate Held Steady

The Bank of Canada kept its key interest rate at 2.25 % — the same level it has been at since late 2025. This means no change to the cost of borrowing right now.

📊 Why They Didn’t Change the Rate

The Bank said the economy has been broadly in line with expectations, and inflation is close to its 2 % target. However, uncertainty about global trade and economic conditions — especially related to U.S. policy — still makes it hard to predict future rate changes.
