Today’s reminder that ‘brand new’ and ‘perfect’ are not the same thing.

Inspected a newly built home this morning with a bedroom egress window that failed minimum code requirements by about one square foot. Small detail, big implication when that window may become someone’s emergency exit.

New homes can absolutely have deficiencies, oversights, and missed standards. A final walkthrough is not the same as an independent inspection.

When you’re out clearing your drive way take a moment to look at these to make sure you don’t have any obstructions from ice and snow build up. Ice and snow blocking exhaust vents or redirecting exhaust fumes to furnace intakes is a common cause for Carbon Monoxide in a house hold.
