New numbers are in for housing construction in the Edmonton region, and the headline is simple:

👉 Slower than last year.
👉 Still stronger than normal.

According to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, housing starts are expected to land somewhere between 16,500 and 24,500 this year compared to just over 21,000 last year.

So no, the sky isn’t falling.

What’s keeping things steady?

✔ Homeownership here is still attainable
✔ Buyers continue to prefer ground-oriented homes like detached, semis, and townhomes
✔ Purpose-built rentals are expected to hold firm

In other words, we’re shifting from break-neck speed to something more sustainable.

For sellers → competition remains, but not chaos.
For buyers → opportunities exist, but choice won’t explode.
