If the attic hatch is not insulated and/or is missing a weather stripping, moist air could escape into the attic causing mold or mildew grow. Insulating the attic hatch will also make your home more energy efficient.

When water sits against the foundation without proper drainage, the ponding can cause settlement, loss of support can result in wood rot and mold throughout the structure. The proper minimum clearance between the facade and the soil is 4 to 6 inches.
Siding, stucco and stone/brick veneers are not waterproof, so water easily penetrates the exterior walls. High grading can obstruct the weep holes that allow the moisture to escape. If the drainage is blocked, the moisture gets trapped in the wall, promoting wood rot and mold.
Drainage problems are avoidable with proper grading. Site grading should always slope away from the foundation for at least 4 feet. Gutter downspouts should always direct the water at least 4 feet away from the foundation or deposit into a drainage system.
