❄️🏠 BEFORE NORTHERN BC WINTER HITS, CHECK THESE 8 THINGS
When temperatures plunge to -30°C, small home maintenance issues can quickly become frozen pipes, furnace failures, water damage and costly emergency repairs. Take a few minutes now to prepare your home before the snow, ice and deep cold arrive.
Before winter settles in, take a few minutes to check:
🔥 Furnace — Replace/clean your filter and consider having the system serviced before it’s working overtime.
🚰 Exterior faucets — Disconnect garden hoses and properly winterize exterior water lines where required.
🍂 Gutters & downspouts — Clean out debris and make sure water is being directed away from the foundation.
🏠 Roof & exterior — Look for damaged shingles, flashing, siding or openings that should be repaired before the snow arrives.
💨 Windows & doors — Check weatherstripping and seal obvious air leaks.
🌬️ Exterior vents — Make sure dryer, bathroom and other exhaust terminations are clear, properly covered and operating as intended.
🚨 Smoke & CO alarms — Test them and replace batteries or expired alarms as needed.
❄️ One more Northern BC tip: Know where your main water shut-off is before you ever need it.
A couple hours of maintenance in the fall can help prevent a lot of headaches at -30°C.
What’s the one winter-prep job you always seem to put off until it’s already freezing outside? 😂👇
