Today staff were the cycle breaker, and then sometimes we were the child. Then sometimes a visitor was the child and a resident was the cyclebreaker.

Then a donor was the child and staff were the cycle breakers again.

Then a cop showed up to be a child. But we had been helped by his cycle breaking colleague about half an hour before so we knew we could help and stop it ourselves.

And everyone had to compromise. And no one was totally satisfied or happy.

And everything ended up ok.

And hopefully we can remember the lessons tomorrow.

After years of meaningful and essential service, the Oasis Overnight Shelter wrapped up operations at the end of June. Our community owes a debt to Pastor Stephan, his staff, and the many volunteers. They have all worked dutifully to create a supportive culture and welcoming space at the church for folks who were very much in need.

Efforts to ensure an adequate number of emergency spaces are available to our community resulted in Wapiti House expanding an additional 10 overnight spaces and the SLC will be accommodating up to 13 individuals. Anyone in need of overnight emergency shelter should first go to Wapiti House. From there, staff will direct sleeping arrangements.

Please do what you can to spread this news. Someone in need may see it.
