With nice weather in the Valley for the next few days, it's the perfect time to visit RJ Taylor’s Local Food Shack at the Glooscap Arena in Canning. His fish and chips just might be the best I've had in the Valley, and with so many great fish and chips places here, that's saying something. Enjoy it at one of the picnic tables on site, or take it to nearby Kingsport Beach to enjoy the sound of the ocean while you eat.

Have you visited the Annapolis Basin Tidal Beach Park in Cornwallis yet? This park features 3.16 acres with plenty of parking, a pathway, picnic tables, and accessible access to the beach. It's a bit of a hidden gem, and a nice place to visit after spending the morning at the Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market.

There's so much blooming at the Historic Gardens in Annapolis Royal. The rhododendron are putting on a pretty pink and purple show, and the wisteria is *this* close to popping open on the pergola.

A few more days and the wisteria will be the perfect backdrop for any high school seniors in your life taking prom or graduation gown photos. The gardens are open daily from 9am to 5pm, and well worth the trip to Annapolis.

While I love a good roadside stand (and I've written about some of my favourite at keithkucharski.com), it's vitally important that we support our local brick and mortar businesses whenever possible.

Independent businesses have a higher overhead than simple stalls, with rent, insurance, and high standards for health inspections that bring their costs up. While their prices might be a little higher than a roadside stand (and actually, they aren't always!), they offer a community gathering spot, local employment, personal connection, and much need vitality.
