While I love a good roadside stand (and I've written about some of my favourite at keithkucharski.com), it's vitally important that we support our local brick and mortar businesses whenever possible.
Independent businesses have a higher overhead than simple stalls, with rent, insurance, and high standards for health inspections that bring their costs up. While their prices might be a little higher than a roadside stand (and actually, they aren't always!), they offer a community gathering spot, local employment, personal connection, and much need vitality.
My favourite South Shore bakeries are featured in this roundup: https://keithkucharski.com/south-shore-bakeries/
And some of my other Valley favourite businesses that sell products like bread, baking, jams, and plants are listed below.
