Reflexology and Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine.
A spine with scoliosis will have a C or S curve to its shape. (thoracic and lumbar curves). It is a common condition affecting more women than men and causes pain in the back, especially as we age, and the condition worsens. The pain can be due to either nerve compression in the spinal region or postural issues and the resulting strain on the muscles trying to compensate for this.
The complementary alternative therapy of Reflexology is somewhat of a new modality of treatment for scoliosis. So the first thing to understand is that the reflexologist stimulates the nervous system by applying pressure to corresponding reflex points on the feet and hands, the pressure stimulates nerve endings that reach out to vital organs in the body to promote healing. More patients are now turning to Reflexology because of the high ability to reduce pain associated with this condition.
While Reflexology therapy for scoliosis cannot fix the underlying cause, medical research has found that it can provide temporary relief from scoliosis pain, experience better sleep, enhance mobility, lessen stiffness, and improve fatigue.
