During the winter months we spend a lot of time indoors, making healthy indoor air quality a top priority. Did you know that some of the top trending house plants also offer the benefit of assisting air purification in your home?

Here are the top 3 plants that can help:

1. Snake Plant - A snake plant is a great houseplant for beginners and can survive in some of the toughest conditions, including a wide variety of temperatures and light conditions. However, be careful not to overwater (or to not water at all).

2. Aloe Vera - Aloes are easy-to-grow succulents and clean the air of benzene and formaldehyde when given off by paints, cleaners with chemical ingredients and other products. The plants need a sunny spot in your home.

3. Rubber Tree - Rubber trees have been shown to absorb and break down harmful chemicals in the air. Their large, glossy leaves also take in the carbon dioxide we exhale and convert it to oxygen.

Of course none of these can replace the job of an in home purification system, but they can assist greatly in the process and they look great in any room!

Open concept floor plans are bright, airy, inviting, & great for entertaining. They encourage family togetherness and offer endless design opportunities.

Whether you happily share your space or wish you had a little more separation there are ways to achieve the zoning of an open plan space.

First you need to decide what the different areas are that you need to accommodate. Most commonly that will be a kitchen, a dining area and a living/relaxing area.

The easiest ways to distinguish zones in an open plan concept are

1. Using area rugs to define a space. Wether it be a larger rug to encompass the living/relaxing area or a smaller rug to tie in a small seating or dining area.
2. A kitchen island - this helps to separate where food is prepared & eaten
3. Create division with contrasting materials
Such as wood tones in the seating area vs. White & bright in the kitchen & congregating area.

4. Artfully arrange your furniture
The placement of furniture can make a huge difference when it comes to creating separate zones in a spacious, open area

5. Use wallpaper to build visual boundaries Wallpaper is In! Create boundaries with accent walls in particular areas.
