What would you do with 30 quiet nights by the ocean?

This winter, we’re opening Villa Sol for something quieter.

Quiet Residencies are private waterfront stays of 10, 14, 21 or 30 nights: time to settle in, sleep, think, write, work quietly, or simply spend an extended stretch close to the ocean.

The home is 5,300 square feet on 6.3 forested acres, with generous suites, wide decks and 425 feet of shoreline. There’s room to roam, and room to breathe.

No required programming. No schedule to keep.

This is Charlie on Paw Patrol at sunset. 🐾🌅

For those of you who have stayed with us, chances are you’ve met Charlie — our long-haired mini dachshund who is truly living his best life.

He loves watching the ocean almost as much as we do. And the second I bolt out of my chair or bed because I’ve heard something — wondering if it’s a whale, a seal or a sea otter — Charlie jumps up and comes running too.

So here he is, watching and waiting for whatever might surface next. 🌊

It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. 🤎

Paddleboarding has become one of my favourite ways to experience the coast.

I wasn’t always comfortable in the ocean. That’s something that has changed for me through spending so much time here.

There’s something incredibly restorative about getting out on the water — the quiet, the salt water and seeing the coastline from an entirely different perspective.

I also think sometimes, especially when we live so close to somewhere this beautiful, we forget that people travel from all over the world to experience the Sunshine Coast and British Columbia.

Villa Sol has made me want to experience more of what’s right outside our door. To get in the ocean. Explore the coves. Watch for wildlife. Sit by the water. And actually experience our surroundings rather than simply admire it.

I’ve been staying in Seaview Suite these past few nights — our suite closest to the ocean — and I still look out in disbelief sometimes.

The water is just… right there.

A few feet away.

It feels a little surreal to sit on the lowest level of the house and watch the ocean move this close to you. The light changes by the minute. The sound of the waves reaches you before you even open the door.

We know what we have here is rare and special. Places built this close to the shoreline simply wouldn’t happen today.

And honestly, even as I write this, I’m still in awe of it.

This place is magical beyond words

This beautiful piece of art was created by Maya, an extremely talented artist who I will work with and learn from. We will also one day host workshops together at Villa Sol and beyond. I’m grateful to know her.

While sitting and watching the ocean go by, I grabbed one of my favourite books by Richard Wagamese: One Drum

I flipped to this page and couldn’t believe it.

There is another story which I may share at some point regarding this piece. But for now, I’ll leave this here.
