When creating your rates, a simple way to generate more revenue is to check the prices of your competitors. Did you realize you're just breaking even if you rent for only one night? Consider giving weekly and monthly discounts & lower your price $50 less than what you see on Booking.com, Expedia or AirBnb. Multiple-night stays are an easy way to lower your costs. Sometimes a 15-minute analysis is all you need to get ahead of your competitors.

Brian Page from BNB Formula is a great influencer on what I'm doing. He teaches excellent principles to show you how to start your business, and most important, automate everything so you don't have to do it all yourself. I like his approach that allows him to travel everywhere around the world. The concept is simple: review your local market & determine if the average daily rate on AirBnb is higher than what we would make in a month. Then, connect with local owners and find out your occupancy rate. You will then see that, most of the time, renting on a short-term basis is more profitable than long-term rental during summer (high season). The BNB Formula seems extremely interesting to me for areas with a strong tourism market.

Take a few minutes to read this great article written by mother-in-law, Diane Cunliffe. “Somewhere along the path of growing up, we lose this sense of wonder and possibility. Often we allow the circumstances and responsibilities of life to take away our sense of wide eyed wonder of what could be. It reminds me of The Logical Song by the musical band SuperTramp. This song describes how a child goes from being creative and imaginative (before being sent off to school) to learning how to be “logical” , “practical” and “cynical” at school.”.

I'm now back from an amazing trip in South Africa where I met awesome people. The short-term rental market there is flourishing. I had the opportunity to stay in a lodge in White River in Hazyview, Mpumalanga. Jeremy and Jen were my Airbnb hosts. The conditions of life in this part of Africa are difficult and they moved from Texas to this small town, giving a new hope to the local people by investing in building lodges and providing jobs to local people. The same story is happening in Pretoria, South Africa, Cape Town, Western Cape & Knysna Municipality. Thank you for giving hope to people in poor communities, you have inspired me! Are you travelling in SA soon? Don't forget to give generous tips to the hard workers you meet.

Maintenant de retour d'un voyage extraordinaire en Afrique du Sud où j'ai eu la chance de rencontrer des gens incroyables. Le marché de location à court terme y est fleurissant. J'ai eu l'opportunité de séjourner dans une loge à White River. Jeremy and Jen étaient mes hôtes AirBnb. Les conditions de vie dans cette partie de l'Afrique sont difficiles et ils ont déménagé du Texas jusqu'à cette petite ville africaine, en donnant un nouvel espoir aux gens de la communauté en créant de nouveaux emplois. La même histoire se produit à Pretoria, à Cape Town et à Knysna. Merci de donner un peu d'espoir aux gens pauvres de ces communautés, vous m'avez inspiré. Voyagez-vous bientôt en Afrique du Sud?
