Behind the Sign | Royal LePage Anchor Spotlight
Today’s Behind the Sign feels especially meaningful.
I had the pleasure of sitting down for lunch with Kris Gerrior, a true pioneer in the real estate industry here in Nova Scotia. We had lunch on the eve of her 79th birthday, and as we talked, I was reminded that some careers are more than just work - they’re a lifetime of dedication to people.
Kris began her real estate journey in 1965, when she was just 19 years old. At the time, getting started wasn’t easy. She had been working in administration at a financial collection agency when a family connection introduced her to a REALTOR® who was hiring. Ten people started the training program. Only three made it through. Kris was one of them.
Her very first listing was in Flemming Heights, priced at $25,000 - a property that would be worth well over a million dollars today. She laughs now remembering how difficult it was to even get bonded and insured at that age. Being a young woman in the industry meant she had to prove herself every single day.
And prove herself she did.
Kris began her career with J.F. Stevens before moving to Pat King Realty in sales. It didn’t take long for her dedication and leadership to stand out. She quickly climbed the ranks to become Manager and later Vice President at Pat King Realty before eventually opening her own Coldwell Banker office.
Over the decades, Kris has worn many hats in her career - agent, Broker, owner, trainer, recruiter, and mentor. In the late 1970s, she earned her Broker’s license, and throughout her career she has trained countless agents and mentored many professionals who respected her strength and work ethic just as much as she respected theirs.
When I asked her the secret to such a long and successful career, her answer was simple:
“Care about people. Work hard. Maintain a strong work ethic. Never stop learning. Be consistent”
That mindset still defines her today.
Kris is up between 5:00 and 6:00 every morning, preparing to help her clients. She goes to the office every single day. She loves the challenging deals - the ones that test your patience and your problem-solving skills. She doesn’t chase the spotlight, but her impact on the real estate landscape is undeniable.
Over the years, Kris has received more awards and accolades than she can count. While those honours certainly hold meaning to her, she’s quick to say they were never the goal. To Kris, those awards are simply reminders of the countless families she’s helped along the way - people she guided through life-changing moments with care, patience, and professionalism.
What struck me most is that after nearly six decades in this industry, she still wants to grow. She talked about wanting to embrace new tools, including AI, so she can work smarter and continue serving her clients at the highest level. That kind of curiosity and willingness to adapt is rare - and truly inspiring.
Kris joined Royal LePage Anchor more than 10 years ago, drawn by the leadership of Ian and Doug and the culture of loyalty and collaboration. That loyalty runs deep. So does her passion for helping people navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Real estate is also very much a family tradition for Kris. Her daughter Michelle works alongside her, and her granddaughter is a valued administrator at Anchor who plans to pursue a career as a REALTOR®. Seeing three generations connected to the profession speaks volumes about the legacy she continues to build.
Spending time with Kris reminded me that real estate isn’t just about transactions. It’s about relationships, resilience, and showing up day after day for the people who trust you.
Her story is proof that the work REALTORS® do truly goes far beyond the sign on the lawn.
