A place to step away from the everyday, slow down, and dedicate time and space to your creative practice—surrounded by lakes, forest, and mountains.

Last spring, Quebec City–based ceramic artist Catherine Valois (c a v a l ) came to Seaforth to make space for writing, drawing, photography, and experimentation.

Through ceramics, handmade paper, and poetry, her practice explores memory, impermanence, and the traces we carry from those who came before us. During her residency, she turned her attention to generations of women whose stories often leave few traces—those who care, watch over, make, and mend.

Between days by the ocean, a slower creative rhythm, and a new technique discovered alongside a local artist, new threads began to emerge.

We just received the sweetest gift from artist Catherine Blanchet , who shaped this beautiful piece using clay she consciously collected near the cabin during her residency at The Parcelles.

If you were invited for a one-week artist residency at The Parcelles, what kind of one-day workshop would you love to experience?

This year, in collaboration with ARTEA , we partnered with Alissa Kloet of Keephouse for a block-printing workshop, and last year we explored screen-printing techniques.

Our local creative community is filled with inspiring artists, mentors, teachers, and speakers, and we’d love to create more opportunities to connect you with them.

What would you love to learn or explore for a day?

Ceramics, natural dyeing, writing, photography, foraging, bookbinding—or something completely different?

More Than a Workshop 🌻 (FR à la suite)

Last spring, we welcomed Catherine Valois (c a v a l ) and MerylCook Engagement by Design , the two artists selected for the 2026 ARTEA × The Parcelles ~ Studio & Stay Dual Opportunity Workshop, for a day of block printing with Alyssa Kloet of Keephouse .

Between carving, printing, lunch, and embracing a few perfectly imperfect prints (as every block printer should), they left with a new skill, fresh inspiration, and a lot of fabric to take home.

Plus qu’un atelier 🌻

Au printemps dernier, nous avons accueilli Catherine Valois et Meryl Cook, les deux artistes sélectionnées pour l’atelier Double Opportunité ARTEA × The Parcelles 2026, le temps d’une journée de linogravure sur textile guidée par Alyssa de Keep House.

Entre la gravure, l’impression, le lunch et quelques impressions parfaitement imparfaites (comme il se doit en linogravure!), elles sont reparties avec une nouvelle technique, une bonne dose d’inspiration et beaucoup de tissu à ramener à la maison.

Some artists remind us that the most meaningful inspiration is often found in everyday life.

Visual artist alana kinsey spent a week in residence at The Parcelles in Seaforth, where slow mornings, ocean swims, and time spent painting alongside her mother and artistic mentor became part of her creative process.

“Much of my work comes from observing and romanticizing ordinary moments, and I think that creates space for connection. Someone might recognize a feeling in a painting even if they’ve never been in that exact place or situation. That sense of familiarity or nostalgia is universal.”

Through her paintings, Alana transforms ordinary moments into lasting memories, inviting us to slow down and notice the beauty that often goes unseen.

Parenthood invites a delicate balance between being fully present for your children and staying true to your whole identity.

For Father’s Day, we invited composer and sound artist Maxime Lawrence from Quebec and visual artist Roger Boulay from New York to share their reflections on what it means to be both a father and an artist.

Both spent time at The Parcelles, creating space to reflect, make work, and consider how fatherhood shapes not only their lives, but their creative practices as well.

Their words remind us that art and parenthood are not opposing forces, but often part of the same story.

La parentalité nous invite à trouver un équilibre délicat entre être pleinement présent pour ses enfants et demeurer fidèle à l’ensemble de son identité.

À l’occasion de la fête des Pères, nous avons invité le compositeur et artiste sonore Maxime Lawrence, du Québec, ainsi que l’artiste visuel Roger Boulay, de New York, à partager leurs réflexions sur ce que signifie être à la fois père et artiste.

Tous deux ont séjourné à The Parcelles, s’offrant un espace pour ralentir, créer et réfléchir à la manière dont la paternité façonne non seulement leur vie, mais aussi leur pratique artistique.

Leurs mots nous rappellent que l’art et la parentalité ne sont pas des forces opposées, mais bien souvent les deux fils d’une même histoire.
