Total Title Fraud is becoming increasingly common in Ontario. This is when a scammer will use a fake ID and fake documents to sell a house typically left vacant by the actual home owner, thus victimizing the home owner and purchaser in the process.
I advise buyers protect themselves by ensuring they purchase title insurance whenever transacting on a property and (if desired) requesting a duplicate copy of title from the title registry office, especially if the home will be vacant.
