Today is bittersweet. After a long and successful career in real estate, my friend and colleague Bernie Reed is officially retiring.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Bernie since 2005, and he’s been more than just a co-worker to me—he’s been a mentor, a steady voice of experience, and a true friend. Long before real estate, Bernie owned a heating and plumbing company, and that work ethic and practical knowledge carried right over into this business.

He’s had a thriving career, but what really stands out is the kind of person he is. Bernie is one of the good ones—genuine, hard-working, trustworthy, and always willing to share a laugh or offer advice. He also gives back. For as long as I’ve known him, he has been an integral part of running our local Terry Fox Foundation. Many of those years he was the president of it. Through his dedication and hard work over the past several decades he has helped raise a tremendous amount of money for cancer research.

Most people don’t know this, but Bernie completed the Boston Marathon in his mid 60’s—an incredible achievement, and a perfect example of his determination and drive. He’s an avid runner, a devoted husband, and a proud father and grandfather. Retirement is well earned, and I know he’s going to make the most of it.

Bernie I will miss our hockey talks, your stories and just having you around the office. Thank you for everything. You’ll be sorely missed here, but I hope you enjoy this next chapter with family, grandkids, and maybe even a little more hockey talk when we cross paths.
