Rocky Mountain Wilderness Society - United to preserve our mountain home
The first and foremost goal of our non-profit organization is to act as advocates for the Rocky Mountain region and the surrounding crownland. Our Board of Directors are connected to the land and spend significant amounts of time in the back country,

We believe through our own efforts and in collaboration with others the Rocky Mountain Wilderness Society can achieve great things for our region.

The road in the Rock Lake Park has been a concern for a number of years, starting from the Hay River Staging Area to the Commercial Staging Area is in the worst condition. We have been working on trying to to get it fixed and been talking to the authorities for quite some time and nothing is getting done. We need your help! This is the response we received yesterday:

Ken,

Thanks for the phone call today.

We are working with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors to get the road going into Rock Lake taken care of.

If you continue to observe issues or if people are sharing their complaints with you, I would encourage you and others to submit their comments to our “Contact Us” page. This way the comments will get sent directly to myself and my Hinton team.

Here is the link to the webpage: https://albertaparks.ca/albertaparks-ca/about-parks/contact-us/contact-us-form/?rg=albertaparks

You can also just tell people to go to Albertaparks.ca and go to the Contact Us link on the bottom and click Email Us.

As always, I appreciate your feedback and am hopeful we are close to getting the roads graded!

Sometimes ya just gotta have a little bit of fun! Brian and the face carving at Pope Thoreau. Billy Wanyandie's signature is beside it.....does anyone know if he was the carver?

One day was even a little snowy

Tucking the horses under trees to keep them as cozy as we possibly can

We had some chilly mornings.....Should have bought the clock out a little earlier.

It was great to see the memorial for Jim O'Neill and especially in such great shape. Jim was one of the later pioneers of the Willmore, traveling many miles through these hills.

It was also wonderful to see the firepit at Pope Thoreau, purchased by the McClay family at last falls fundraiser. We are very grateful for the McClay's ongoing support of the RMWS and their generosity in helping preserve and maintaining the trails in the Wilmore Wilderness. The firepit was taken out this spring, and it was gratifying to see it put to good use.

It's a comfort to know that these old cowboys are still guiding us through these beautiful mountains as we follow in their hoofprints.

Maureen Durda who we missed in Crew 1 group photo. One heck of a worker! Thank you!!
