Fresh off the press: here’s a brief update on the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for July 2024 which was just released earlier today. The CPI increased by 2.5% year-over-year, the slowest pace since March 2021, down from 2.7% in June. The deceleration was driven by lower prices for travel tours, passenger vehicles, and electricity, though gasoline prices rose by 2.4%.

The next interest rate announcement is on September 4th. With the lower inflation rate, there is a growing probability that the Bank of Canada will lower rates again, potentially invigorating the market.

All buyers who’s sitting on the fence, they have a small window of opportunity before the upcoming rate decrease.

The Bank of Canada has cut their overnight rate by one 0.25 basis points.

They have succumbed to the political and public pressures. With the overarching demand, low inventory and record immigration - strap yourselves in, because this reduction, albeit small and relatively insignificant in terms of monthly affordability, sends a powerful message to the marketplace: the worst is behind us, and brighter days are ahead. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We are already seeing the market reacting to the rate reduction.🎉🎉🎉

Today, the Bank of Canada has maintained its policy rate at 5%.

The global economy is expected to grow at about 3%, with inflation in most advanced economies gradually easing. In Canada, economic growth stalled in the second half of last year, but is forecasted to pick up in 2024, with GDP growth expected at 1.5% in 2024, 2.2% in 2025, and 1.9% in 2026. CPI inflation slowed to 2.8% in February, with the Bank aiming for inflation to be close to 3% in the first half of this year and to reach the 2% target in 2025.

The next rate announcement is scheduled for June 5, 2024.

Between now and June 5th, we will continue to monitor the inflation rate in March & April as well as the unemployment rates. The BoC has made it clear that they need to see a downward trend in inflation, and decreased pressure on the jobs market before committing to a rate reduction.

Today, the Bank of Canada has maintained its policy rate at 5%.
