I invite you to have a look at my June real estate newsletter

June 2025 Hi everyone: It feels like summer is finally here at Lake Waseosa in Huntsville. I’ve been growing a pollinator garden at my summer home and the milkweed is doing really well this year. I hope that the monarchs will start visiting soon. The blackflies are gone and there are not many mosq...

What a week, what a month!  With a provincial election coming up very soon, a new Prime Minister starting in March, a possible federal election this spring, and the looming threat of trade tariffs – the real estate market is flat.  Any one of these would be enough to stall the market. I’ve s...

Hello everyone!  Now that the Bank of Canada has reduced its key overnight interest rate to 3.75% we are hoping that will help to jump start the real estate market.  Further rate cuts are anticipated into early 2025.  Anecdotally I’m busier right now than I have been all year: showing property ...

Last night I thought that Jazzy had eaten part of the squeaker out of one of her stuffed toys. She's pulled all the stuffing out of the toy and ripped open the plastic bag around the squeaker mechanism. I took her to the ER clinic in Barrie along with what was left of the squeaker and they said that they'd had two other dogs last week who'd done the same thing. Turns out the mechanism was not missing any pieces and it looked like she hadn't swallowed anything. She's OK thankfully. I just wish that we had an after hours vet clinic close to home. I didn't get home until midnight. Thankful though that she's OK. Quite a scare, crisis averted. I wanted to post this so that if anyone else finds a similar squeaky they'll know this is the entire mechanism. Just a little plastic bag and the cylindrical 'reed'. Might save someone a trip to the vets.

Hello everyone, I hope you’re enjoying the beautiful fall weather that we’re experiencing in Muskoka. The leaves will be at their peak soon, maybe in about a week. The lake temperature is still warm enough for swimming (22’C at the end of our dock yesterday) but the hummingbirds have left to b...

Hi everyone, here is my August real estate e newsletter

Happy August everyone.   I’ve been having a close look at the charts included in this newsletter and it’s very close to what I’ve been experiencing anecdotally in the real estate market this year. The number of sales is down dramatically.  Other than in 2023 it’s the least active year for ...

What was and what is. My cousin's son, his daughter-in-law and granddaughter lost everything including their sweet little home in the Jasper fire. Thankfully they are all safe but devastated by the loss.

Old Money Decor Is the Timeless Look Taking Over Interiors:

There’s a fresh decorating trend on the scene, and it’s rich. We’re saying goodbye to the new and flashy and hello to a blast from the past that’s anything but boring. The old money aesthetic is taking the design and fashion worlds by storm, with no sign of letting up anytime soon.

“Eschewing the obviously flashy decor, trend-chasing, and interiors showmanship of the nouveau riche crowd, this style grounds itself in classically chic pieces with staying power,” says Heather Goerzen, Havenly design editor. “It’s Ralph Lauren Home meets Christie’s with a side of polo matches and Dom Perignon.” But with old money decor, it all comes down to the quiet luxury design tenets which, according to Goerzen, are craftsmanship, quality, and originality.
