Canadians are putting more of their paycheque towards housing than ever, here’s what the latest numbers reveal 🏠

Nearly half of Canadians now spend 50% or more of their household income on rent or mortgage, well beyond the 30% typically considered affordable. Younger adults feel this strain even more, with 64% aged 18–34 carrying the heaviest burden. For many, this means tough choices, 58% worry about cutting back on basics like food, clothing, or education just to make housing payments.

Yet, the belief in homeownership remains strong. Most Canadians see owning a home as key to stability and a better future for their children, even as 94% feel that it’s become harder to achieve. Across the board, there’s a sense that the current affordability squeeze is challenging, but also that it can be solved, most people still believe meaningful action can make a difference.

Homes hold more than just walls and rooms… they hold a lifetime of memories.
