Did you know that you can check your 2017 property assessment value online before the official notice arrives in the mail?

Puzzled by your number? BC Assessment value is based on the value of your property on two different dates:

1. The market value of your property on July 1, 2016. That's 7 months ago and the market in your area may have changed in that time.

2. The physical condition of your property on October 31, 2016. If you were having renovations done or were half-way through a new build on this date it could affect your value.

It's also important to check your assessment to make sure they have the correct information. Is the lot size correct? Do they have the correct number of bedrooms and bathrooms?

Before launching a formal appeal, it's wise to contact your local BC Assessment office and speak with your assessor. Simple corrections can often be handled in a single phone call.
