I posted a quick ‘Just Sold’ earlier today like I do with all my sales. It’s one of those repetitive, soulless things that just comes with the job, and if I don’t do it, people start wondering if I’m still working. But some sales deserve more than just a graphic, and this is one of them.
What matters to me isn’t the stats or the commissions or any of that. It’s the faces and the stories behind the houses. When I can wrap up a deal knowing I made a real impact in someone’s life and helped them through a major chapter, that’s when I feel fulfilled.
That was absolutely the case with Pat.
Pat was finally ready to downsize and enjoy her golden years after spending the last 20 years in the home she and her husband had retired in together. After he passed, her family helped her maintain the property, and when she was finally ready to make the leap into one level living, her family reached out to me. They had been viewing a property nearby that she loved, and even though they had already been working with another agent, they wanted me involved. We talked through her options and decided that joint representation with me and Jenna Brown was the best move.
Working alongside Jenna was genuinely a great experience. I tend to approach things from an analytical, numbers based perspective, and Jenna brought a real eye for style and staging that balanced things out beautifully. Together, we worked really well.
But back to Pat. She was scared, anxious, and excited all at once, and being able to answer her questions and ease that anxiety was one of the most rewarding parts of this whole process. Watching how much joy lit up her face when I brought the sold sign over today made every bit of the work worth it.
Growing up, my cousins lived on the street next to her house. I used to play on that street when I’d visit them, and I drove past the house every single time I went to temple. I had seen that house my entire life without ever knowing who lived inside it. And now I finally do, just as she’s leaving it. The sweetest, most wonderful lady I’ve ever had the privilege of working for.
Getting a big hug from Pat at the end of a long sale is exactly why I do this job.
