TRREB Welcomes HST Elimination for ALL New Homebuyers 🏠

Today, the Federal and Ontario Governments announced a major step forward for housing affordability: the elimination of the 13% HST has been expanded from first-time buyers to all buyers of new homes valued up to $1.5 million, with the rebate capped at $130,000. A reduced rebate is available on homes valued above $1.5 million.

TRREB and our Housing Advancement Coalition have been advocating for these affordability reforms, and we're pleased to see them become a reality starting in April. 🙌

TRREB looks forward to continuing to work with Premier FordNation, Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister Rob Flack and the Federal Government to ensure that policies translate into more homes being built, greater affordability for consumers, and a stronger housing market that supports communities across Ontario.

This rebate runs from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.

Some big change coming to realtor.ca, with a vote yesterday to spin it off in to a realtor owned but "for profit" independent organization.
Realtors have long held to the principle that no advertising or other online marketing mechanisms should clutter the consumer experience, so as you probably know, there is no advertising on realtor.ca.
Over the years, however, it has become clear that a member dues only funded site does not generate the amount of revenue needed to compete with large tech based real estate platforms (ie zillow and others)

On a 2nd change front, we are undergoing training and implementation for a new Ottawa Real Estate Board member internal system called PropTx for posting our listings which is being implemented in January.
