Fall is the best time for homeowners to find small issues before winter makes them expensive. 🍁
Here's what to check before the heating season starts:
🏠 Roof & gutters: Look for missing or lifted shingles, then clear out the gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters can cause ice dams and water getting into the home once temperatures drop.
🔥 Heating system: Swap out the furnace filter and turn the heat on early. If it's making odd noises, giving off smells, or heating rooms unevenly, get it serviced before you actually need it.
🌬️ Drafts & insulation: Check for drafts around windows, doors, and attic hatches. Worn weatherstripping or caulking is a cheap fix that makes a real difference in comfort and heating bills.
💧 Moisture & leaks: Look under sinks, around the water heater, and in basement corners. Staining, musty smells, or damp spots usually point to a problem that will get worse over winter.
🔧 Small issues: Make a list of minor repairs now. Small problems get bigger fast in an Okanagan winter.
Realtors, save this and share it with your past clients. It's an easy, helpful way to stay in touch this season.
