Shout out to Ne-Chee Friendship centre staff Cultural coordinator Denise and Wellness coordinator Abbie for a wonderful Hand Drum workshop this afternoon. We had great conversation, shared teaching, stories, and beautiful songs, good to sit in circle, share some laughs. Look forward to next week to finish part 2 of the drums. Thanks to Elder Hyacinthe for support, participants, our volunteers Sisters from church of Latter day saints..Abbie also packaged care kits, clothes, socks and snacks.. miigwetch

Its been a quick minute since we've had the chance to share some amazing times..its been super busy with today serving over 130 people, yes very hectic.. kudos to the people who have been dropping off donations of food, clothing, personal items. Miigwetch for the gift of comfort and care..we had a Step challenge in partnership with NWHU in recognition of the excessive walking that most of the people we serve walk daily. The impact on feet and improper foot wear. There are many benefits also and we heard so many stories of how the challenge made people think of their health and walking stories. It was great to connect and listen. SO we had some amazing estimated steps as the pedometers were a bit of a challenge.1st place walker walked a whopping 320K steps in 10 days, 2nd was 250K and our staff member had 110K steps..Congrats to all the participants. It was extended to Monday due to the heat for 10 days. We will plan another one later and this was a great start. Thanks to NWHU staff Joe and Karla and Fellowships staff Charity assisting with the tracking and checking in.. , , , , ,

Another brutally hot day, +43 with the humidex..very difficult one everyone. Thankful to open doors to a cool place for people to come and cool down and have a rest..lots of water to keep people hydrated and freezies to help ease the heat. We are looking for some summer clothing donations and hats or even umbrellas. We wont say "no" to water bottles or freezies either!.Nothing like a fresh shirt on a sweaty day. Miigwetch, thank you for your consideration. Thank you so much to those who have ready dropped off tshirts, hats and freezies. Please watch out for each other as this heat is very dangerous. Stay cool.
