Decided to redo a patch on the driver's door. It was my first patch with bends and curves, and I was not satisfied with the results, so off it came, and I am in the process of making a better patch repair. More pics to follow.

This is what I am finding as I remove brackets. The cab mount brackets hid almost all of this.

Discovered a bit more rust, so removed the cab mount brackets so I can replace the rusted metal. I knew I had to replace part of the inner and outer cab corners, but had not noticed the condition of the metal adjacent to my earlier patch. Fortunately, the cab mount plates are welded and bolted to the floor of the truck.. the bolt holes provide the correct location for putting them back.

Have not done much over the last several weeks. We did a very quick trip to Westbank a few weeks back and a quick trip to Macklin, so have been away from the shop. Summer is also the short time to get projects done, so much of my time has been devoted to projects around the house.
I have done some welding on patch panels, as well as repairing some of my earlier attempts at making patch panels. Yes, there is a steep learning curve. Lots to learn yet. Made a patch panel for the rear bottom on the passenger side front fender, where it meets the running board. Both front fenders are rotted out there, as are the rear fenders where they meet the running boards.
I am hoping to get all of the welding done on the cab so I can flip it around and repair the cab corners, as they too are rotten. Then...I can put the cab back on the frame. The box has been sitting outside in the elements, and will need a bit of TLC before getting put back on the frame.
Yes, this is one step forward, sometimes a couple steps back, another step or two forward and so on.

A couple updates. Got gas for the mig and for the tig. Repaired a cab mount, and installed it. Painted the entire frame with red oxide primer. Did some welding on patch panels on the cab, and started disassembling the front clip so I can repair more rust. I'm having fun doing this. I hope you are enjoying the updates, as infrequent are they seem to be.

So, after humming and hawing for almost a year, I finally got around to applying for buying some mig gas for welding. I have been using core-flux wire for welding, but as many of you would already know, it has properties that are not suitable for the end result i sm trying to achieve. So, sometime next week I should get sn email saying I can go to Bumper to Bumper in Kipling and pick up a tank. This is not a magic wsnd that will make me a better welder, as that takes practice, but I expect the welds themselves may look a tad better. I also have a tig torch for my welder, so I may also pick up a tank of argon gas so I can see how badly I can butcher up metal with a tig torch, lol.

The cab is on its back and the amount if rust is have to deal with is plentiful. At the base of the A pillar there are several panels that are spot welded together. All of the panels have rust holes, so i have to separate all of them so I can cut out the rust and weld in patch panels. Time consuming, but hey, it has to be done.
