A couple updates. Got gas for the mig and for the tig. Repaired a cab mount, and installed it. Painted the entire frame with red oxide primer. Did some welding on patch panels on the cab, and started disassembling the front clip so I can repair more rust. I'm having gun doing this. I hope you are enjoying the updates, as infrequent are they seem to be.

So, after humming and hawing for almost a year, I finally got around to applying for buying some mig gas for welding. I have been using core-flux wire for welding, but as many of you would already know, it has properties that are not suitable for the end result i sm trying to achieve. So, sometime next week I should get sn email saying I can go to Bumper to Bumper in Kipling and pick up a tank. This is not a magic wsnd that will make me a better welder, as that takes practice, but I expect the welds themselves may look a tad better. I also have a tig torch for my welder, so I may also pick up a tank of argon gas so I can see how badly I can butcher up metal with a tig torch, lol.

Removing rivets today. The flathead motor mounts will not work with a 351W so they have to come out. A new crissmember with motor mounts will be purchased once the frame is painted and ready for the new engine/trans.

Some of the work this week on the Merc. Tried my hand at metal forming by creating a bead. Spent a large part of today making ONE patch panels. This stuff is really time-consuming. More time was spent finessing the patch than was spent designing it. It is a steep learning curve for me, as I don't have anyone to ask questions of as I work through the process. Lots of trial and error, and redoing, lol.

The cab is on its back and the amount if rust is have to deal with is plentiful. At the base of the A pillar there are several panels that are spot welded together. All of the panels have rust holes, so i have to separate all of them so I can cut out the rust and weld in patch panels. Time consuming, but hey, it has to be done.
