After a slow start to the year, the Canadian housing market is showing signs of a turnaround. National home sales rose 3.6% in May, the strongest monthly gain since last October. Even better, Ontario led the charge with a 9.6% jump, signaling that some of the country’s hardest-hit markets may have finally bottomed out in Q1.
This momentum builds on an upward revision to April’s numbers, and while sales are still down year-over-year, the recent gains suggest we may be entering a more active summer season.
